EDITED: if to be even more exact answering all your points - this one is the dream one: http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/adi_2-dac.php
There is no single one best, but RME is always a good way to start.
Wow a little expensive way to start, here in the third world we start with the onboard sound chip and asio4all.

The OP question was rather ambitious from the start.
I allow myself to take advantage of this post to ask my question about the interface.
I use a Roland Quad capture card but I don't need the inputs line and microphone, is there a good quality card without audio connections and working better than the quad capture to connect my VPC1 to the computer ?
However, I need audio outputs for monitors and headphones
thank you for your help
@bernard
Nothing is better than this: http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/adi_2-dac.php
Better drivers, better overall sound quality.
thank you for your reply but I don't see any midi connect for my keyboard on the ADI 2DAC
Then why not MIDI over USB, or dedicated MIDI Interface (Miditech Midilink Mini USB MIDI-Interface)?

I did not read with attention
i'm currently running with a roland rubix-24. i had been thinking of upgrading to a firewire setup when i have the space for a full speaker cluster (moving back to london this fall, finally), but have been steered back on the right path and it's RME here we come...
(as a side note, this has to be the worst thread title ever and has nothing to do with the thread's contents. :unamused: )
