Topic: free DAW for Pianoteq

I am looking for a free DAW that can host Pianoteq well.

My requirements are fairly straight-forward (I hope): works well with Pianoteq, can support external reverb (e.g. Valhalla Room), ASIO4ALL compatible on Windows 10.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Osho

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

Tracktion 6 is free now I think ... Has retrospective recording, midi comping, etc. worth taking a look IMHO

hope that helps

Thanks! This looks great - will try it out!

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

Dont waste your time with free DAWs, go directly to Cockos Reaper, it is full functional for 60 days (even after that ).

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

Agreed, Cockos Reaper is very powerful, but Tracktion (6) has its merits also, first of all: it's simple and intuitive. And it's really free... ;-)

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

I didn't have good experience with Tracktion... it crashed way too often, honestly. Reaper is rock-solid.

Hard work and guts!

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

es gibt noch Samplitude silver. Bechränkt auf 8 Spuren.

One possibility would be Cantabile:

The "lite" version is Free.  I use the "Solo" version for $69 because it includes MIDI Filters.

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

DAWs aren't a big thing with me so I'll just mention LMMS, which is free and cross platform.  I can't say whether it's a good, bad or indifferent DAW as I lack the knowledge of DAWs in general.

Another possibility is MuLab (free version):

it's fairly basic, but simple and straightforward, and might be as much as you need for now.

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

So you have some choice here !!!
Basically though, only Reaper and Tracktion are not lmited in one way or another.
According to Evildragon, Reaper is rock-solid - I agree - while Tracktion would not - I tend to disagree...!
Not a single problem here since version 6.
Tracktion is really free, while Reaper kindly asks for a (very modest) fee, but has no protection scheme either.
Then, if you buy a good audio interface, chances are that it will be bundled with some software too.

Thank you all very helpful! Will try it out this weekend!

I have noticed this. Do you think they know?

Re: free DAW for Pianoteq

+1 for Tracktion. It has a non-traditional DAW interface, but actually it's very practical and intuitive, the best DAW interface I ever tried. Tracktion also has great commercial policy: the latest major version is paid, the previous is free.
