Topic: The beauty and the Beast

Before someone quote "Why they give her this old bad shape piano?", read this:

"While Valentina Lisitsa was busy in the UK with promotion for Rachmaninov, there were some problems with bad weather so her Eurostar train back to Paris had to be cancelled and she ended up stuck at St Pancras International for some time! However, the delay did not deter her from taking to one of the station's Street Pianos and performing for passers-by in the station!"

This give a idea. Pianos on street it's someting interesting, atract people passersby and some reporters.
So, what about create a pianoteq street Project, in Paris, and invite pianists ?

Re: The beauty and the Beast

Seen the video last year. It's the pianists chose their instrument, not the other way round. Good luck if you can get any pianists on Pianoteq. An upright pianos in public is more humble and warmth than a digital pianos if you know that.

They did this in Hammersmith (UK London) once.
I guess you'd have to make sure that you're not breaking some busking by-law, like not having a license to play on the street as soon as you start to play.

Well, some, like Paul Badura-Skoda, support the project...

Anyway, I'm amazed of how in good shape the piano seems. It's almost tuned and all keys seems to be working - not quite the same as the Yamaha U3 you find in Parisian stations. In Lille Europe they have a digital, a Clavinova if I'm not wrong - firstand only time I've seen a digital used for this purpose, which doesn't seem a bad idea to me, since they usually need much less maintenance, they stay tuned and they're quite effective (it's quite a waste to use nice acoustic pianos for such a noisy environment).

Re: The beauty and the Beast

Seattle, in the US, where I live, has a program during the summer where they place upright pianos in a bunch of different parks and waterfront settings. As much as I love Pianoteq, it just wouldn't be the same if they decided to plop digitals all around. So much of the charm comes from those broken keys, poor tunings, rotting wood...

Plus, someone would totally steal a digital piano at night, whereas the acoustic uprights are all so old and worn (and heavy), that they're there all summer, with no attempt at theft!

Re: The beauty and the Beast

Avant Grand with multi-speakers or any upright pianos with multi-speakers will get more attentions. Pianoteq will only have audiences on private events or live performance where you need a powerful sounds. Grand piano or upright are useful for being genuine, authentic and unaltered tones.

As far as I can see Airports all are using grand pianos.

Unless you want to fool pianists into playing Pianoteq with Roland HP508 with PHA-4, you get some new idea.

Re: The beauty and the Beast

Thank you all for the imput.

Well, the charming aspect in the vídeos I posted it's related with the famous pianist and the old piano between public. It's like bringing her and her music closer to public, to day by day life, through a domestic piano model.

Some "body" it's reqired to the piano, to give some imponense. A compact keyboard and a lightweight stand would not be a good idea.

A small upright with retrofit system and pianoteq, could be nice.
Not to be left alone by night, of course.

How to explain what hapenned to Joshua Bell:

People o rush?
Too many amateurs violinist on streets and subways, making people borred with one more?
Any risk to someting like that happen with a pianist?

How interesting! I like this pianist very much- he plays a lot of fortepianos. Maybe he likes the kremsegg collection! This is the main reason I want to get pianoteq as I like historical piano sounds the best.

Re: The beauty and the Beast

He is almost is asking Modartt for a modern Bosendorfer grand:

Re: The beauty and the Beast

I must admit, I am not much of a fan of new piano sounds- I really go for historical Grafs, Streichers, Walters, Broadwoods...but of all the modern pianos Bosendorfer is the best, by far.

It has a very bright modern sound- perfect for that style of modern music; but as I like dark, melancholic, passionate, fiery and  tumultous 19th century classical music like Schubert and Beethoven, that sound is not for me- is why I want the kremsegg piano collection.

If I won the lotto..I'd buy a period house and a real 1800 fortepiano!

Well, Walter Fortepiano in KIViR is Badura Skoda's own (you can find it in the description)... so my bet is that he likes KIViR better than kremsegg .

And, needless to say, Bosendorfer AND Fazioli are the two next add-ons that PTQ NEEDS to make.
(even if I feel that obtaining the rights to model contemporary brands which are still on the market is a painful and difficult operation, n'est-ce pa M. Guillaume ?)
