Topic: List of Yamaha rock piano videos (all listed in previous threads)

[Edit: some of the links were bad. Sorry. I've corrected them in this post.]

Sandy requested these in another thread, and I found that some of the links had been deleted, so I've updated them here. Some of these were originally posted just out of a love for hearing\seeing rock(?) songwriters playing songs the way that they were composed--on solo piano. Some are also for reference while trying to create similar, often battered, piano sounds. There are often problems, of course, with the quality of live performance sound and video sound. Part of the discussion was\is about the effect of having the lid all of the way down on a big, bright Yamaha, something often done on stage, with mics sometimes inside the piano. (Do a search for "video" in the forum to read the discussions.)

The VOLUME LEVELS on these vary greatly. Be careful...

Probably the best piano recordings are these two AOL Sessions performances of Mclachlan doing "Angel" and "Adia" solo with close mics, although there's a bit of mp4 warble on the vocal: (People outside the US had trouble viewing them. There may be link sites that can access these, but no one seemed to be able to find one.)

Carol King soloing her "Natural Woman." An old video, and both the film and piano sound quality suffer:

S. Crow's almost solo "I Shall Believe." Widely detuned unisons? (Heavy compression or something on the piano. Strange attack. But an attempt at a big, forceful gospel\rock sound):

McLachlan: ("Angel" This is a "pop rock" concert. Candles are allowed. The recording of the piano is bad, but it's a useful reference when listening to the other videos.)

A cleaner version, also solo piano and vocal, recorded at the Glenn Gould Studio with a more distant mic. You may have to turn up your volume a bit to hear the piano well:

McLachlan again, doing Mitchell's "River." Sometimes I love the sound on this and sometimes I hesitate. It sounds as though compression was applied after the attack, so that the after-sound is a little louder in proportion to the hammer strike than is natural. Very rich, maybe with artificial reverb added. Sometimes the piano sounds slightly out of tune, too, although sometimes I think its unisons are just widely spread. May be all of the above, but the notes and chords often come through cleanly:

Beto-Music posted this next link. Jerry Lee feeling low at a big piano: (Audio only. Very different, great, beat-up upright sound.)

Skip and other people posted some Elton piano, a chorused pop sound, but the links seem to be dead, now. Sorry. Skip, can you post new links if you find the videos?

I'm still surprised that there aren't many more similar videos of these and other people performing solo. My impression is that they would be popular. Please post more if the sound is decent and it's piano and voice.
