Topic: Faint Ringing on Low Notes

I have a mid 2015 13" MacBook Pro connected to my Samick SG500 via USB, with sound output to a pair of Sony MDR-V6 headphones plugged into the SG500's headphone port. The Mac is running the trial version of Pianoteq Stage 6.

It all sounds great but, no matter what piano I select (Steinway D, B, K2, Grotrian, Blüthner, etc), C2 and adjacent keys have a faint cymbal-like overtone playing alongside the fundamental note. It only affects the keys around C2.

I don't hear it when playing the sampled pianos from Logic Pro X or from the Samick, although they both have some faint ringing on the high notes.

Any thoughts?

Re: Faint Ringing on Low Notes

I hear a faint high tone when I play C 2 – is roughly the same as C 6. If I turn off PIanoteq, and allow my acoustic piano strings to be struck instead of the stop bar, my acoustic piano has an even louder overtone for these low base notes then does Pianoteq. It appears to be from the sympathetic resonance of the strings that are un-damped at the upper end of the keyboard.

You may be onto something there. I'll test that on my brother in law's acoustic piano. Thank you.
