Topic: Note-off behaviour ?

Could someone confirm for me the Pianoteq response to a midi note-off command ?

I believe that note-off with a velocity parameter should alter the sound of the damper going back onto the string - is this how Pianoteq behaves ?

I'm asking because my Yamaha P140 sends note-off without a velocity parameter, so I can't experiment myself.

Thanks,

Toby

Re: Note-off behaviour ?

it certainly does *something* ... I couldn't tell you exactly what though.
It's a subtle effect, one that you hardly notice, but it is a definate improvement.

Using my Kurzweil MIDIboard (which has a slider for note off sensitivity) I can get the biggest change if I hit a big hard chord, sustain it for a couple of seconds, then lift my fingers off the keys.
The difference in sound between lifting my fingers off very fast, or very gently, is then quite marked.

Re: Note-off behaviour ?

Interesting....thanks.

I've just tried the same test with my P140, and there is no difference in the sound between a quick release and a slow release. Which ties in with the note-off having no velocity parameter.

Re: Note-off behaviour ?

how is old Bill Hayden these days, by the way?

Re: Note-off behaviour ?

One's past always catches up eventually....:)

Bill died in mysterious circumstances, but we don't talk about him now.
